(If you click on the picture, the poster will open in a new window/tab). I recently presented this poster at the internal IOE poster conference for a piece of work that provides evidence for the validity of simple exercise measures available in the BCS70 during adult waves. Hopefully, this work will become my first published article from my PhD, though it is still in draft stage at the moment, and I am making quite a few alterations from what is presented here. Comments/criticism welcome.
Original proposal for my PhD research
Below is the proposal I submitted for funding of my PhD by the ESRC. I had previously been rejected on my attempt prior to my first year of (self-funded) study. On my second attempt, I was rejected again! I was, however, first reserve in case someone did not take up their offer. Luckily, someone decided to do just that and so I got funding for my second two years!
Title
Investigating the Links between Childhood Experiences of Exercise and Adult Exercise Behaviour
Background
Being physically active is associated with a wide range of health benefits, including reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced risk of certain cancers and good mental health (Besson et al, 2008; Wannamethee, Shaper and Macfarlane, 1993). Due to rising levels of obesity Continue reading
New version of site up and running!
Well, I have finally done it, after lots of playing around with themes, I have decided to go with a fresh one that works! I will now be able to write regular content for this site. If you are interested in any of the topics, please feel free to register and comment. If I know you, trust you, and you are interested in social science related areas, it would be good to get you involved in writing on this site too! Please feel free to approach me if that is the case.
the new build of the axiomic.net website
Gradually, I am rebuilding axiomic.net. The plan is to enable easier posting and greater integration with mobile technology (so I can post on the move easily). At some point, I plan to have a mobile version of this site available too so that browsing on a smartphone isn’t a total mess (as it can be at the moment). However, there are a few bugs I am currently in the process of ironing out, so bear with me! :)
I will also endeavour to post more regularly and wow you with some useful and interesting social science bits and bobs, including methodological bite-size pieces, updates on my research and possibly even some critiques of political stories and science coverage in the media. I am also hoping that any particularly dedicated users will be able to register as contributors to the site and comment on my writings, and even post themselves!
Lots of ambition, little to show for it at the moment, but let’s watch this space!
